# 26-week product-management mastery roadmap

## Purpose

This program develops working PM judgment across the entire product lifecycle and all twenty corpus domains. It is not an 8,000-question checklist. The full banks are a reference reservoir; the roadmap selects representative questions, artifacts, cases, and feedback loops.

## Standard weekly output

- two concept notes;
- eight untimed and six timed question attempts;
- one decision artifact;
- one mock or formal review;
- one revision;
- one reflection identifying a changed belief.

Use a single longitudinal capstone through most weeks so discoveries and trade-offs compound.

## Phase 1 — Product foundations and evidence habits

### Week 1: PM role, ethics, and product context

Map decision rights, team roles, company/product goals, actors, value flows, and ethical obligations.

**Artifact:** product context and decision-rights memo.  
**Exit test:** distinguish ownership from collaboration and identify three decisions the PM should escalate.

### Week 2: Business models and product economics

Study revenue models, pricing units, cost structure, gross margin, contribution margin, CAC, retention, LTV, payback, working capital, and incentive design.

**Artifact:** unit-economics model with low/base/high cases.  
**Exit test:** explain which product behavior drives the economic model and where it could create harm.

### Week 3: Quantitative decomposition and guesstimates

Practice demographic, usage, capacity, digital-volume, marketplace, and revenue estimates. Emphasize units, sensitivity, and triangulation.

**Artifact:** two decision-relevant estimates using independent methods.  
**Exit test:** both methods land in the same order of magnitude or the discrepancy is explained.

### Week 4: Product analytics foundations

Define outcomes, North Star and input metrics, funnels, cohorts, retention, counter-metrics, event semantics, identity, and data-quality checks.

**Artifact:** metric tree, dictionary, and tracking plan.  
**Exit test:** another person could implement or query each critical metric without guessing.

## Phase 2 — Discovery and design

### Week 5: Research planning and inclusive recruitment

Select methods based on decision risk; plan participant criteria, consent, accessibility, inclusion, sampling, and synthesis.

**Artifact:** research plan and recruitment screener.

### Week 6: Interviews, observation, and synthesis

Run story-based interviews or contextual observation. Separate observation, finding, insight, opportunity, and recommendation.

**Artifact:** research snapshots, experience map, and evidence table.

### Week 7: Opportunity mapping and problem prioritization

Map outcomes to opportunities; assess reach, frequency, severity, satisfaction, strategic fit, and evidence confidence.

**Artifact:** opportunity map and target-opportunity decision.

### Week 8: Product design and solution validation

Diverge on solutions, map assumptions, create an end-to-end flow, include edge states, prototype, and run a concept or usability test.

**Artifact:** tested prototype brief and iteration log.  
**Exit test for Phase 2:** a prioritized problem is traceable to evidence and the solution changed because of a test.

## Phase 3 — Measurement, causality, and diagnosis

### Week 9: Descriptive analysis and data pitfalls

Practice segmentation, cohorts, funnels, distributions, uncertainty, Simpson’s paradox, survivor/selection bias, missingness, and denominator errors.

**Artifact:** analytical readout with at least one counter-explanation.

### Week 10: Experiment design

Study hypothesis quality, assignment units, power/MDE, exposure, guardrails, SRM, peeking, multiple testing, novelty, spillovers, and long-term effects.

**Artifact:** preregistered experiment plan.

### Week 11: Causal inference beyond A/B tests

Learn difference-in-differences, interrupted time series, matching, regression discontinuity, instrumental variables at a conceptual PM level, and when qualitative evidence is better.

**Artifact:** comparison of three feasible learning designs for one decision.

### Week 12: RCA and incident learning

Validate signals, locate change points, decompose metrics, prioritize hypotheses, choose discriminating tests, contain harm, correct causes, improve detection, and run blameless postmortems.

**Artifact:** product RCA and postmortem.  
**Exit test for Phase 3:** analysis distinguishes symptom, proximate cause, contributing conditions, and systemic prevention.

## Phase 4 — Strategy, prioritization, and delivery

### Week 13: Strategic diagnosis and choices

Analyze customers, market, competition, technology, regulation, capabilities, and constraints. Decide where to play, how to win, and what not to do.

**Artifact:** product strategy memo with reversal evidence.

### Week 14: Moats, networks, platforms, and portfolios

Study economies of scale, switching costs, brand, data advantages, network effects, multi-homing, ecosystem governance, adjacencies, and capital allocation.

**Artifact:** moat and portfolio analysis.

### Week 15: Prioritization and outcome roadmaps

Compare opportunities using evidence, value, confidence, cost, risk, dependencies, cost of delay, strategic fit, and learning value. Document model overrides.

**Artifact:** prioritization decision and now/next/later roadmap.

### Week 16: Requirements, execution, and lifecycle

Write effective briefs, non-goals, acceptance boundaries, decision logs, dependency/risk registers, release plans, operational readiness, migrations, and sunsetting.

**Artifact:** delivery brief plus rollout/rollback and deprecation plan.  
**Exit test for Phase 4:** roadmap, metrics, and execution plan all trace to the strategy.

## Phase 5 — Growth, monetization, and market

### Week 17: Growth systems

Model acquisition, activation, engagement, retention, referral, and resurrection as loops. Find the binding constraint before proposing tactics.

**Artifact:** qualitative and quantitative growth model.

### Week 18: Pricing, packaging, and unit economics

Research willingness to pay; select a value metric; design free/paid boundaries and tiers; model expansion, discounts, localization, cost to serve, and churn.

**Artifact:** pricing and packaging recommendation.

### Week 19: Positioning and go-to-market

Define ICP, buyer/user/admin, category, alternatives, differentiated value, proof, channels, product-led vs. sales-led motion, enablement, and adoption.

**Artifact:** positioning and GTM brief.

### Week 20: Launches, internationalization, and lifecycle growth

Plan launch tiers, staged rollout, education, migration, support, sales/partner readiness, localization, low bandwidth, older devices, measurement, and crisis response.

**Artifact:** launch-readiness review.  
**Exit test for Phase 5:** growth and pricing choices reinforce rather than sabotage the product’s value loop.

## Phase 6 — Technical, domain, and responsible product depth

### Week 21: Systems, APIs, data, and reliability

Learn context diagrams, APIs/contracts/webhooks, storage and pipelines, availability/latency/throughput, identity, observability, build/buy, backward compatibility, and technical debt.

**Artifact:** technical product brief and failure-mode review.

### Week 22: AI product management

Start with a non-AI baseline. Cover data rights and quality, model choice, offline/online/human evaluation, AI UX, cost, latency, hallucination, security, bias, drift, human fallback, rollout, and vendor churn.

**Artifact:** AI evaluation and launch plan.

### Week 23: Platforms, marketplaces, and B2B/enterprise

Study multi-sided value, liquidity, matching, incentives, reputation, disputes, API/developer experience, partner governance, buyer/user/admin splits, RBAC, audit logs, procurement, implementation, and SLAs.

**Artifact:** ecosystem health and enterprise-readiness scorecard.

### Week 24: Trust, safety, privacy, accessibility, and ethics

Apply privacy-by-design, threat/abuse modeling, moderation and appeals, fraud controls, minors/vulnerable-user protections, WCAG, fairness, anti-dark-patterns, auditability, and transparency.

**Artifact:** integrated product risk assessment.  
**Exit test for Phase 6:** the product has measurable safety and inclusion guardrails with owners and escalation paths.

## Phase 7 — Leadership and capstone

### Week 25: Leadership, operating model, and communication

Build real behavioral stories; practice influence, conflict, coaching, saying no, ethical escalation, executive writing, data storytelling, bad-news communication, decision rights, team topology, product ops, and portfolio governance.

**Artifact:** 12-story bank, executive memo, and operating-model critique.

### Week 26: Capstone and mixed interview loop

Deliver:

1. a 10-page maximum evidence-backed product case;
2. a one-page executive decision memo;
3. a 15-minute presentation;
4. a 45-minute defense;
5. a product-design mock;
6. a guesstimate;
7. an RCA/metrics mock;
8. a behavioral/leadership loop;
9. a retrospective and next-six-month development plan.

## Graduation standard

- All twenty domains score at least 2/4.
- At least eight target-role domains score 3/4 or higher.
- Capstone scores at least 80/100 with no red-line failure.
- Final six timed mocks average at least 75/100.
- Every quantitative artifact has checked math and units.
- Every historical or current fact is sourced; assumptions are labeled.
- At least three artifacts show material revision after feedback.
- The learner can state what evidence would reverse each major recommendation.
